I have a Hummingbird hand held VHF radio. I notice when I have it close to the steering console where my x65 and GPS are mounted I get a lot of static. If I move the radio towards the back of the boat it seems to get better. I remember this topic being discussed quite some time ago, but I don't remember the details. Any ideas how to remedy the problem.
Thanks,
Scott Lee

Scott, most of the discussions were related to base mount units and the antenna being too close to the other electronics. The tin foil deal is not the answer in any case. In almost every case the antenna needs to be re-located.
I have the same radio as a back up. (VH-5) I don't have probelms with interference. If I did, I'd try to squelch it out. (Max Setting)Or do as you and simply move the radio to another part of the boat. I think you will find that the electronics noise will not be picked up in your transmissions. I'd also asume that when you are recieveing (Like on the WX channel) you do not hear any electronic noise.
