I am considering buying a brand new Lund Rebel 1650 with a four stroke Merc, do you think a 40 hp four stroke will be adequate power for this boat? will be two adults most of the time but might have 3 or 4 guys in the boat every once in a while. Does anyone have one of these w/ a four stroke and what kind of Performance do they get out of what motors? Thanks for taking the time to answer
eleyfish,
Dad just sold one with a 40HP Merc 4-stroke on it and it performed very well with 3 people (150lb, 250lb, 215lb). Close to 32MPH or so with 2 in the boat. I have the same boat in a tiller with a 25HP Merc 4-stroke and it does well with just me. Anymore than that and the boat really struggles. I wouldn't worry about putting anything more than the 50HP on the ssv unless you really really want to.
Here is one thing to consider though, 4 people in that boat is too many no matter how patient you are. 3 is crammed but manageable.
Email me at ncavanaugh992@msn.com if you have anymore questions and I'll be glad to help.
Thanks,

Running a 2001 1650 Rebel-V tiller with 40 Yamaha 4stroke with 11pitch standard prop. With 3 people (2 of them over 200+ lbs) runs real nice.
Comes up on plane instantly . Top speed about 30mph. Trolls down nice also.

I have a 2001 Lund 1650 SSv Rebel with a 2000 40hp Merc 4 stroke. I love it. Great set up that I use mainly for fishing muskie. The 40hp merc runs the boat at about 35mph planed out on a calm lake. I was thinking about trading up to a 60hp 4 stroke merc, so I could max the boat out.....but not this year. I would recommend if you are buying new to consider getting the 60hp, so the boat is maxed right from the start.

Oh shoot, I forgot I posted this on the Walleye side. I forget that the Walleye guys want to go slow. ;) Like said I mainly fish muskies, but I would answer yes to your question. It should be at 1.5mph or less in a back troll. Good Luck!
