I am purchasing a 2000 Nissan 40hp tiller, trim, tilt elec start and was wondering if is familiar with Nissans. I would prefer a Merc but this is too good of deal to pass on. Thanks. RUG RAT

A reputable dealership with an honest shop is all-important. Far more important than any differences among brands.

Nissan is owned by a corporation called Tomatsu in Japan. From what I hear, they build very reliable engines and Nissans are one of their products in the US. I agree with the previous person, service, good reliable service is most important. What good is a bargain if the service is poor and perhaps a long distance away. Hope this helps.

I thought that only Cabela's sold the Nissan motors...Is that true or not??

No. You can get them at different dealers.
I went to the Nissan site just now for the heck of it, punched in my zip and there seems to be plenty of places.

Owned a 70hp for 3 years and it never missed a beat. Bought it new from a Crestliner dealer packaged on my 1750 fishawk.

Good luck.

My neighbor has had a 70 hp nissan for the last 10 years, and I think that the
only problem has been a trim and tilt solenoid --
Except for the rock that he hit in Canada, and required a new lower
unit.
Just got back from another trip to Canada - and it performed perfectly
for him again.
Take care
