I looked through the archives and couldn't find the answers I was looking for so hopefully someone on here can help me out. There is a chance I might have to change over to this motor and was wondering what people's experience with this setup has been. I run with 4 adults on a regular basis. I would also like to hear what prop you're running, mounting height, performance, overall opinion of this motor and anything else that may be pertinent. Thank you.

Been there and looked already. They tested the boat with alot lighter load than I will be running at times so I would like to know what I can expect in situations like that.

I looked at some the the test results on the site and agree that sometimes they test the boat light. I run this boat with a 225 Yamaha two stroke and after I loaded the boat up I was down to a 19p with the boat fully loaded a the motor mounted up one hole. The four stroke has more torque then the two stroke so you might get by with a 21p but using a Yamaha pro series. I run Mercury props, and my test results are almost the same running a 19p so the Mercury prop seem to have more bite. But on th other hand the diameter might be the difference. With a larger diameter you can run higher engine heights. But for the most part the boat will run in the low 50 mph range loaded. My speedometer say's I am doing about 59 mph but the GPS reads about 51 mph and as the gas tank and the livewell empty I pick up a mph or two. I run an EFI and it does use gas but not a lot of oil but the four stroke should be better on gas at slower speeds and will perform very nice on that boat with the top end speed being close.

eye-guide,

I also run this boat in the IFS model with the 225/OX66 EFI w/motor raised up one hole. Recently I took six people for a ride out around the Bass Islands in flat conditions in the boat, fully loaded with gas and a 21" prop and I got 51mph on the GPS.

I've also run this boat with half tank of gas and my partner and only get about 52mph. I don't think I'll get much more out of this set up because of the IFS and that's really all I need to move. The motor has great hole-shot, lifts the bow nicely and is quite responsive. I don't think it's too brutal on fuel for it's size and is not using as much oil as I would have expected. The motor runs like a top, starts easily and just flat out moves the load with ease.

Add a T-8 kicker, 4 marine batteries, gas, and fishing tackle(a couple dozen bottom bouncers, boxes of jigs, three way sinkers, downrigger balls, anchors, etc... and it's just a darn heavy load. Include me and a couple of anglers and well, this motor does all you could ask from it.

If I'd had the chance to get/try the F225 before I bought this boat I may have considered it but the motor was not available when I bought in the summer of '00 and took delivery of the '01 boat in mid Sept'00. I've been told by folks that have the F225 that it is all they expected and more. Plus it's darn quite for it's size too.

Either way you'll love the boat and motor combo. Good luck.

We have sold a number of those exact packages. We go with a Pro-Series 21 (Yam) and mounted up one hole.
Down at a lower altitude, the guys on the Columbia River are running a 21 Saltwater SS (Yam) prop, again .."up one" hole..on that package.
The Saltwater has a bigger diameter. We can't turn that Saltwater prop up to the good rr's here at 3-4000 (and up) feet.

ProV,

The June 2002 B&WB issue had both the Yam and the Honda dyno equally at WOT (224 HP). The BF225 had better fuel economy numbers while the F225 had better holeshot and top speed.

Where did you get your dyno numbers?
