I need a new battery for starting outboards and running electronics. I can only find a 24group starting battery, and feel I need something bigger as I have 2 outboards, power tilt for kicker, 3 electronics, and livewells all running off one battery. Is there a difference in starting and trolling batteries, or should I just buy a 27 or 29group trolling?
If you're running your electronics, livewells, etc. a lot with the motor off a deep cycle battery would serve you better and last longer.

Look at the Trojan SC225 battery, this should solve your problems. It's a very good battery and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Shawn,
There is a difference between a starting battery and a trolling batteries, they have very different lead plate thicknesses. The starting battery is designed to discharge power at a very fast rate and be recharged at a very fast rate (via the alternator). The trolling battery is designed to discharge slowly and recharge slowly (via charger). If you use a trolling battery as a starting battery you will shorten its life quite a bit. There are batteries that are starting/deep cycle combination batteries (their plates are between thick and thin). Is sounds like that would be the best bet for you. I know at our local farm supply store they have all three style batteries for marine applications.
Good luck

The stow-a-way made by GNB is a dual purpose battery. I have used it to start the big motor and run the electronics with good results.
