I have a 2000 Lund Pro Sport 1700 with a 115 Johnson 2 cycle. This spring when I was getting it ready for the season, I put water muffs on the water inlet and let it idle for awhile. I noticed that the tach was filling up with smoke, that I thought is exhaust. Today when I was trolling with the motor, it looked like there was a smokey haze in the tach window again. Is this something that could be serious or is it something I should just live with? There is no moisture in the tach window at all.

Pete: There is no way possible to get exhaust smoke into your tach. Let me say that again. It is a virtual certainty that it is not exhaust smoke. They are connected by wires only. If you are getting smoke of some kind inside your tach, there MUST be an electrical problem of some kind and I would say it could pose a very serious threat. Get it checked out by a qualified person at your dealership if you don't know much about electrical circuitry yourself.
