First, let me say this is an invaluable site. I have reached a decision that I need a boat. I fish mostly ohio waters, and take an annual retreat to canada. My question is most, if not all companies, offer white as a primary color. Now I do not live in WI, but it seems that the paint would require a lot of upkeep. I grew up in a 14' unpainted boat, and like the ability to go anywhere in the lake. My question is if the white hull touched anything submerged would a paint job be in order. Does anybody other than Lund leave their respective hulls unpainted? Allow me to clarify that I am not Suggesting that I knock my hull around, but a bump or two seems Unavoidable. To h*ll with the heat, just don't hurt my hull. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks Again

>>Does anybody other than Lund leave their respective hulls unpainted<<

I have a Lund and the hull is painted gray. The paint scratches just like the blue paint on top. The way I figure if the scratches are under water when on the lake and no one can see them, they don't bother me.

I too have a Lund, 2002 1800 Fishermen and it is white on the upper-half and gray on the bottom I like the white hides the dirt and water spots.

Are you talking glass or metal?? On glass I have found white about the easiest color to take care of. I have one with maroon detailing and it was horrible -- faded and oxidized all the time -- i went with all white.....

I think the hulls are painted to help mimic the view a fish has of the above sky. A painted suface is common on all boats except I saw a gorgeous 18 ft PrinceCraft last week were the only unpainted surface was the lower areas of the hull. Can anyone tell me where to get anti-foul paint for aluminum hulls thats legal in Canada?

LOL

I didn't even catch that when I read it. Good question!

In Colorado, it is the green boats that take home all of the fish.

I painted the bottom of mine black and added a full moon and stars so the Eyes think it's time to put the feed bag on as I drift over them.

My boats white, inside and out. I wish it were light brown so it wouldn't show the dirt. I'm always cleaning the thing. Besides, I'm starting to think white repels fish.

Was also wondering what WI had to do with anything. I don't think the color white should be your main concern about your hull. If you knock into something on the bottom of your hull, the last thing on my mind would be whether it needs to be touched up--no one see it. My concern would be whether any damage was done (dents, dings, rips, tears, punctures), and the color of the paint has no bearing on this.

I find that white shows dirt less than any other color, my SportCraft is all white except the bottom;) and my Dodge Ram 4X4 is also white, You also don't notice the oxidation as much as with colored surfaces.

White can be pretty stealty color and as for "oxidized" (bare) aluminum that color hands down for the rocks and what not. Yep even the scratches blend back in on their own ;) Bare aluminum boats shed those decals as well. Unpainted hulls are out there. Smoke gray (bare)in my mind is the absolute sky blending color, whether blue sky's or overcast. All boat hulls block light, which makes them dark from below. Paint may only borrowed, and left her and there at times. Could be worse though, melting hairs back with lighters.....
