Well the secrets out....I had an opportunity to ride in a boat powered by a prototype Briggs & Stratton air cooled 5hp outboard. The rep for Briggs was at the Antique Outboard show in Tomahawk this week. He bolted the darn thing on to a small Aluminum boat and off we went! It has incredible torque. It runs just as fast with one light guy as it does with two fat guys. It was a prototype and had a few bugs...it is a little noisier than Mercs or Hondas and reminds me of a Go-Kart motor. He said they will be released in September, just in time for the Duck hunting season. They expect that the Duck hunters will fall in love with an air- cooled outboard which will be sold and serviced by your local lawn mower dealer....all for 750 bucks. It trolls so slow you can hardly see it move, and will idle for a month without overheating. The cooling system can't choke with weeds so you can fish in a swamp....nice stuff.
