Merc 9.9 4stroke-kicker.....

Got one for Ya folks. Would the Bigfoot 9.9 make better kicker than the standard 9.9 4 stroke? Any insight would be helpfull. Thanks-Bob.

I guess it depends on your definition of "better" is. I have a 15 hp bigfoot. The gearcase is bigger, the gear ratio is 2.0:1 for the standard model to the bigfoot's 2.42:1 and the water intake located lower on the bigfoot. The prop has a different pitch, too.Pretty sure the 9.9 is the same. Whether that makes for a "better" kicker is your decision..

The bigfoot will have better response at low rpms than the std 4stroke.

The bigfoot will be slower at full throttle than the std 4stroke.

The prop is bigger on the bigfoot than the std 4stroke so trolling very slow will be easier on the std 4stroke.

The bigfoot is heavier that the std.....

Most pros are using the bigfoot (merc's) or the High Thrust (Yamaha's) models on the trail....
