I am running Goodyear Marathons on my trailer, Load Range "B" 1100#'s @35psi, and the trailer load is well within 2200#'s.
I noticed that the spare on the trailer is a load range "C" tire that is rated 1360#'s @50psi.
2 questions:

If I was to use the spare, would you run it at 35#'s to keep the pressures even on the trailer, or is it better for the tire to run it at the full 50 psi ?

Would it be a good idea to run a set of "C" load tires on a trailer that only needs "B" tires, or would the high tire pressure (50 psi) on a light trailer cause the center of the tread to wear out to fast ?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

I'm no expert but here's what I would do. mount the spare on the trailer at 35# and go for a ride to a lake(this gives you a good excuse to go fishing). Stop and check the temp of the tires every 5 miles or so. The trip should be a good 25 miles or so(even better excuse to go to a even better lake). If the spare seems to maintain about the same temp as the other tire it should be ok for a spare at 35#. If it heats up much more than the other tire try it at 50# and see how the rig rides. For the price you may just want to buy a new tire that is the correct load rating, but you wont have as good of an excuse to go fishing. Oh wait, you do need to try out the new spare don't you?

Good luck,
Jim
