I need some help w/ how to rig these things up.So you guys will know I,m from southeast Louisiana, now you area wondering what the ##### does he need jet divers for. I have been fishing in Lake Ponchatrain, and alot of people troll rat-l-traps for speckled trout(spotted sea trout) while this is effective I would like to find new ways to catch fish. So I am going to try and troll w/ a no. 10 jet diver and put a husky rapala or a yo-zuri minnow on it. I just don't exactly know how to rig them and there ain't to many people to ask down here. Any help you can give me would be greatly appeciated.

P.S. I've never even seen a real live walleye ,but they look like they are a fun fish to catch and to eat. Hope to go north and catch'em one day.

Good Luck to ya'll when you hit the water next!!

Get a precision trolling book, they have luhr 20's listed in there. And they help tell you how to run alot of diving lures too. Hope this helps. Craig

How deep do you want to go?

Roger,
If you go on Luhr-Jensen's website you can download a "tech report" on the jet diver and how to rig them.
Pretty simple though. The main line coming from your rod attaches to the top fin. We use ball bearing snap swivels from the main line. Then you want a leader approximately 5-6 feet that attaches to the underside of the jet. For cranks we use a ballbearing snapswivel on the end attached to the jet, and a snap only at the lure end. We use Florocarbon for our leaders on Erie, either Seaguar or P-Line. This is the stuff sold as leader material in 20-25 yard spools - NOT the stuff sold as florocarbon line to fill a reel - ie Vanish. There is a difference.

One of the other guys mentioned "Precision Trolling" by MArk Romanak (sp?) and Steven Holt. You can order this by clicking on "Products" at the top of this board. This will be the best $25 you can spend if you plan to do much trolling.

Good Luck,

Hey Guys, thanks alot. I was planning on using the flurocarbon leader. I don't know if this will work(using the jet diver) but if you want to catch bigger and more fish no matter were you live you have got to try new thing and hopefully you will stumble on something that will work.

As for the depth , I,m going to use the 10 ft. diver. Lake Ponchatrain is the deepest water that I fish in and it is 18-20 ft. deep. The big trout sit 2-3 ft off the bottom and i hope to get in the right zone to catch'em.

18-20...pretty shallow, not sure I'd use a jet diver. A Dispy diver would be easy, a Slide Diver would be a nice option as you can leave a long setback between the diver itself & the bait. For that depth I'd use snap weights, inexpensive, easy to use, you won't need a dipsy-type rod. Leadcore would work well too.

Roger - There ae lots of ways to get down 20 ft. The easiest is to use some of the deep diving crankbaits like deep diving reef runners, thundersticks or deep diving husky rapalas. Other ways are snap weights, or leadcore line. I am sure you can find all of this stuff at Bass Pro or Cabelas on line. I second the idea of getting the precision trolling book. It will show you many ways to get to the depth you want.

Good luck on catching those bottomfeeders.
