I own a '94 Lund 1775 and '94 Merc 75 hp outboard. The outboard currently has a 19 pitch 3-blade aluminum prop installed. The rig will run about 36 (GPS) @ 5200 RPM and WOT. The prop is getting pretty beat up and has been welded numerous times. I am considering purchasing a SS prop this winter. What are your prop recommendations for this rig and where can I get the best price?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Rodbender,

I ran this rig for several years from '94 through '98. I would suggest going with one size smaller prop with the SS. It looks like you are about at the right speed and just a hair shy on RPMS. One size smaller is my "guess".

You gotta have Lund with a black outboard!

Steve's probably right on the pitch - he would know better than I.

However, with you stating that it has been repaired several times, I would recommend staying with aluminum. SS does not give like an AL prop will. If you hit obstacles often, do not get SS. You may be repairing an entire lower unit instead of a prop.

Good Luck

Thanks for the input. Actually, I bought the rig used and all the prop damage was done by previous owner(s). Good advice on the Alum vs SS in a situation where you have lots of shallow water, though.

Steve, when you state "one size smaller", what do you mean?
The prop I am running is a 13x19. Are you suggesting looking for a prop that is smaller than 13" in diameter, or looking for a 20 pitch prop?

Do you have any specific models you would recommend?

Thanks.

I don't want to put words in Steve's mouth but I'm sure he's talking about pitch, not diameter. The second number on the prop spec (14x17 - the 17 is the pitch). If you go to a 17 pitch, your RPM's will go up - speed will probably be close to the same +- and your holeshot will improve.

Good Luck

Rodbender,
I bought a 95 Lund with 95 75 Merc a few years back. Boat came with a 13x18 Merc. SS. Had a few dings when I bought it and rpm's were always abit high. In reading post in here and found a few tips that made the boat run great. 1) First moved the motor up one hole, motor was originally flat on the boat. 2) Purchased a Michigan Wheel Predator Prop 13x19 SS. This was a cheaper alternative, but the boat performs great! This prop is cupped quite abit more than my old prop, but I can still turn it about 5200 with trim. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly! I think....
