View Full Version : Cheap accommodations on Leech & Cass?

In the past I have vacationed with my wife and parents and we have rented a nice two bedroom cabin on Cass and Leech for a week each. This year I'm going to be going by myself and staying for a month on each lake. Problems is: most cabins are two bedrooms and sleep four to six. It is overkill, (and prohibitively expensive!), for me to rent such lodging for 8 weeks. Does anyone know of a really cheap cabin on either lake? All I want to do is fish and sleep. I don't need swimming pools, interpretive naturalists and such - just a roof over my head, a shower, a refrig and dockage for my boat. Thanks, and good fishing.

Try Ojibway Resort on Pike Bay(Connects through a channel to Cass Lake. I know they have a 1 bedroom cabin and they are reasonable. I don't know the availability of the cabin. I've been going there past 7 years. Nothing fancy but it works for us. I don't have the adress or phone number handy but it should be to hard to find. It's in Cass Lake,MN on the Pike Bay Loop Road.

Borch,

I thought that the channel from Pike Bay to Cass was not navigable a lot of the time. Am I wrong?

I've used it several times(don't spread the word though). I wouldn't want to use it at night. But under normal conditions it's not too much of a problem. You do need to trim the motor up quite aways(especially where it dumps into Pike Bay). If the water is really highy you'll have a tough time getting under the train trussle. If it's really low there may not be enough water. Those with a console have an easir time that us guys with tiller rigs. Personally I spend most my time on Pike Bay. Good fishing for walleye and Muskie with not much pressure.

Try the folks at Cass Lake Lodge, ask for Mike or Terry. We stay there a couple of times a year and they have cabins of all sizes available. As for the channel the water is very high this year making passage impossible for all but the smallest of boats.

We were just up there over the weekend and had fantastic fishing for both wallys and perch. We are looking forward to our return trip over the fourth.
