O.K . you guys have been such a big help with the boat and motor now on to the next question. Have a 2002 1700 Lund Angler 80 hp 4 stroke Yamaha tiller, bow mount Auto Pilot Minn Kota trolling motor 54 inch shaft. Want to add either a Minn Kota transom mount trolling motor or a Yamaha Tr8 on the transom. With the Yamaha 80 4 stroke on the transom already at 356 lbs was wondering if anyone added another kicker motor like the Tr8 as I was concerned about the additional weight with following seas and wondered if the Minn Kota transom mount trolling motor would be a better choice. Also with the TR8 wanted to know if it could be steered with the bigger motors tiller handle or would I have to lean all the way over to the TR8 to steer it ? Tried just using the bow mount but in two foot seas the prop pops out of the water each wave. Shouldnt have listened to the salesman when he said " No you don't need the 60 inch shaft , the 54 is plenty"

I had a 2000 Angler 1700 tiller with a 75hp Merc and a 6hp Merc kicker it worked fine.Do not know the lbs. of the Mercs. I also added the Panther unit to steer the boat, Best thing you can do,it is simple to run

Just curious, but do you really need a kicker when you have a 80 hp? I hope thats not a stupid question. I had a 90 merc and it trolled down very nice. Maybe for back trolling???

I have a 2001 Lund Angler w/90 hp Merc and a 9.9 Merc right next to it, I've had no problems. I would recommend getting a tilt & trim kit with the motor (495.00 extra) it will prevent the bracket that holds the motor up from breaking. I had mine installed after it broke.
Weight of the 90 4 stroke 396lbs, 9.9 127lbs, the dealer installed both motors and said the weight was not a problem.

I have a 2002 Angler SS with a 135 Opti and a Merc 9.9 4S, mounted on the port side. It is not stern heavy, and sits level in the water. I don't get a lot of water over the back, even when I don't have my Wave Wackers on it. Go ahead and do it. No problems.

Tried trolling with the 80 Yamaha 4 stroke , couldn't get it to troll down slow enough for harnesses so thats why I wanted to add a kicker to the transom

Shep I guess your right with the 135 which is maxed out another 120lbs or so couldn't hurt as my 80 weighs less than your 135 opti. One of the other posts mentions a panther steering mechanism is that the same as an easy -steer where both motors are connected with a telescopic stainless steering rod to both motors?

I have a 2000 Angler ss with over 450# of motor and kicker on the back and it's not a problem. Depending on your style of fishing however you may not need a kicker. I have a Minn Kota 65 AP with 60" shaft and do all my fishing from the bow. Would not buy the kicker if I had to do it over. Unless your a die-hard back troller you may want to re-visit your dealer and trade up on your Minn-Kota. A lot cheaper than a kicker and you'll probably want to fix that 54" shaft someday anyway. Just my 2 cents worth...by the way you'll love that Angler!

I have the Goldeneye steering rod on mine. It is in the front of the motors. The EZ-Steer, I believe, is located behind the motors on the lower units. Hard to get to, I think. The panther steer is an electric unit, with a rod that goes to the motor. It has a remote button assembly to control it.

Not sure if you'd need either, with the main motor being a tiller, unless you mount the kicker on the starboard side. When I use the kicker to backtroll, I just sit on the rear casting deck, and operate the kicker from there. Comfortable enough for me so far.
