Hornets in Bimini boot

Need some advice, The past month every weekend I drag my boat out of storage yard and have hornets nesting under the bimini boot. I'm tired of fighting them off each weekend. They just keep coming back after I kill them and remove the nest material.

Any ideas how to prevent them from nesting under my boot?

Exclusion is probably the only sure fire way to halt the invasion. Can you stuff material to keep them out of the boot? I had the same problem a few years back and ended up taking chunks of window screen material and stuffing it into every area they had shown preference for. It was a pain but it worked.

Sucking them out with a vacuum at night then spraying a can of aerosol insect killer into the vacuum works pretty well too, they don't tend to be as aggressive in the dark. Of course I didn't use the "good vacuum" for this or my better half would have made life unpleasant for awhile.

I thought of moth balls but wanted to hear if it worked for anyone first before I tried that.

I'm having the same problem with spiders in mine, they are nesting in the bimini top pockets where the support poles go through, every time I go out I kill about 6 or 7 before my girlfriend will get in the boat, webs everywhere, same thing every weekend, some big suckers.

i had a hornets nest in my water intake for my i/o lower unit...motor was getting hot and not overheated so when i got back home i removed the plate and a live hornet came out...don't know how he stayed alive but thats what happened...steve

I don't know if this would work for insects but it does the job for mice. Try the static stopping sheets that are used in clothes driers. I used to use moth balls when storing my boat for the winter until a buddy told me about the drier sheets he used to store snowmobiles with in the summer.

The damm spiders were ridiculous this year. Every day I get to the dock, I spend 15 minutes with a broom cleaning out the damm webs. Had the yellow jackets in the boot too. They don't take too kindly tot he eviction. Nasty critters.
