Got the motor mounted on the new boat and tryed it out today.
And the motor is throwing water in the boat. My thinking is the motor is to low in the water.
Is this right? Also it's mounted 2 holes from the top. Moved it up one more hole tonight. Hope this work's as there's only one more hole left. Then it will be time to add the jack plat.
Also the frount is bouncing if I try to trim it out. Will the motor being to far in the water cause this also??
Thanks
Pete
If the boat is bouncing, with any motor trim at all, it would be a good idea to install transom wedges, under your motor mount. This involves removing the motor, installing the wedges, and then reinstalling the motor. The transom wedges, allow the motor to "tuck under" the boat by about 5-7 degrees. This is the same as about 5-7 degrees of negative trim. Thus you will be able to get a better hole shot, and then get to a 7 degree trim - to get to the point, where you are at right now. Then, full trim will get you to the point, where your boat just starts to bounce. This is commonly caused by a boat, that has too vertical transom.
If water is coming into the boat - are you sure that it is coming from the motor? Could it be coming from one of the depth finder transducers that is mounted too deep into the water. i.e. if you have a depth finder installed on the boat.
Good luck

Hey Pete...been a while.
By any chance ...you don't have a 25" shaft motor on a 20" transom boat...do you?

I've got a similar problem on a boat I just bought. 16' Grumman with a 6.5' beam and a 40 HP Johnson with trim and tilt. Once up on plane, the boat will porpoise as soon as I try to trim out the least little bit. Some people have suggested a Doelfin, but the transom wedges sound like the ticket to me. It will allow the motor to trim in more, and then allow it to trim out to meet various conditions. The big question is, where do you get them? Can't say that I've ever seen them in a catalog. I'm in PA, so if they are available from a local sourse, could you give me a phone #? Thanks
