Have an opportunity to buy a used 16 ft. aluminum boat with a 75 HP, 3-cyl. Mariner motor, a 1994. The boat is in excellent shape but I know nothing about this motor. If you are familiar with this motor please let me know what you think of it. Thanks.

Mike,
I had a 94 mariner 75 tiller for about 4-5 years and it wsa a great motor. Pretty good on fuel, good power, oil injected ect. After a few years I had the cards resynchronized and I had some diode go bad once (minor maybe 75 bucks to have it replaced) but those were the only things, I gave regular maintenance and it was a great motor. You probably know this but mercury and mariner are the same company, if you are more familiar with merc.
I have known others with this motor from different years and all were good motors.
Good luck and I think you'll be happy.

I have a '98 75hp Mariner on a 1600 Lund Pro Sport. It's been very dependable. Can be a little cold blooded on the first start of the day, but always starts. With 2 people, gear and a full tank of gas it will do 38mph on a GPS. Only repair has been a heli-coil, that's my fault not mercury's.

Very good engine trolls nice if carbs are set up properly.
only problems they had are stator failures check under flywheel if the stator is red your good to go if its black may have problems, not real bad though part $274 and a hour labor. if maintained properly you will love it . Good luck

I have a '95 75hp Mariner that pushes my 1700 Pro Angler. I change plugs once a season and run a little Stabil every other tank to help with cold starts and it has been a super motor. 2 guys, fully loaded, and 42 mph. It doesn't troll down well, perhaps a troll plate would help. Remember to change out the impeller every 5 years just to be safe.
I had either a '94 or '95 Mariner 75hp and it was a solid engine. I sold it in 2000 and I still see the guy around who bought my rig - still going strong. Like others said, Mariner was a sister company to Mercury. They've since dropped the Mariner name, but it's just a Mercury in silver paint. I'm still running a Mariner 9.9 4-stroke - solid engine as well.

Just so you know they did not drop the mariner name, its still very big out on the east coast.
