Can this be true? Someone mentioned in a previous post that they talked to a Yamaha dealer and was told they are sold out for 2003's.
Does anyone know more? How could they be out of 2003's when we haven't even finished 2002 yet? If there is any truth to this, what models are we talking about?

Someone is pulling your leg. There could be a delay on a motor being delivered. This year was crazy for boats and motors going out the door.

I know the port of entry was/is closed. The works were on strike! That will drive the price up and make them very hard to find!

I ordered my 1800 Pro-V at the end of June and with a Yamaha 150 V-Max HPDI and a T8 kicker. I took delivery of this rig around August 8th. I had to wait an extra week because the dealer was waiting for the 150 H.P. motor to come in. According to the date code on the motor it was built in mid July and it was a 2003 model. At that time Yamaha seemed to be a little behind in production.

I was told if you want a 115 four stroke that they were sold out because sylvan and other boat companies have so many ordered for there packages and once the orders are filled they may have soom but they may not.

Most likely the 115 4 strokes. They also supply Merc with parts. My Merc dealer was just offered a 135hp opti even up in place of the 115 4 stroke he has been trying to get.

I have a Yamaha 115 4-stroke ordered and it will not be here untill after Feb of next year.
My dealer has them on back order and Yamaha told him that they had upped production by 25% and was selling more than they could make. Talked like they would up production about 10% more after this year.
Also one more dealer I know of has them on back order. So I'm running an old motor untill next year.

Some models of Yamaha four stroke motors are sold out for 2003.
Your larger dealers have doubled ordered and should have stock or have large enough allocations.
Mercury 115 4strokes are unavailable even to the larger dealers for 2003.
Check with two or three dealers, make sure they are the larger ones, and place your order before the January boat shows. Take delivery of your boat package earlier than normal this year also....

I tried to buy a Yamaha F25 this last July and was told by one dealer that they were on order with 1 scheduled for delivery in late September, and the 2nd one in late November. While I found one at another dealer, it was the only one they had and were not expecting another for "months". I'd say Yamaha is gaining market share and is behind the eightball on production.
I ordered a Yamaha 175 HPDI in July and my dealer told me it would take about 6 weeks. At the end of the 6 weeks he told me it would take another 2.5 months! I called Boats.net and they told me they could get it in 6-12 days. I ordered it and had it to my dealer in two weeks. It is a 2003 but the date stamp on the motor states it was made in July 2002.
