Use Goop hand cleaner. I tried this a few weeks ago. Just take an old toothbrush and work it in, then a spray bottle with water to rinse it. It worked great for me. Try it in an out of the way area to test for colorfastness first.

I would suggest plain ole ordinary mineral spirits. Soak small amounts on a white rag and work into and grease out of your spot. Keep using and soaking a small clean area of the white rag so that when the rag comes up clean (still white after rubbing spot), you got all the grease out. Ron

Carburator Cleaner - 78 cents a can at Wal-Mart. You won't believe how effective it is... cw
Get an aerosal can of brake cleaner. It leave no residue and doesn't eat plastic like come carb cleaners do.
MNU: Have you tried Resolve carpet cleaner?? It works on just about any type of spot. My wife uses it for everything the grandkids spill on our carpet. I used it in the cabin of my SportCRAFT and it cleans the crap that always ends up there!!! Keeping THE CARPET CLEAN.....Kaz

I have used WD40 to remove tar from the carpet in my boat and it works great with no stains. I don't know why it would not work.
1. Spray it on and let it soak.
2. Blot it with a rag.
3. Rub it out
I got this info from a guy that I work with that is super fussy.

Folex is the best thing I have found for grease and oil stains. It is available at Home Depot, Menards and sometimes Walmart. Carberator cleaner, mineral spirits, wd40 or brake cleaner will weaken the adhesive holding the carpet down. Goop is a citrus cleaner so it should work and not harm the carpet or adhesive. The CI is for carpet installer.

I have to 2nd the comment on the use of NOT using any of the petroleum based products for cleaning the grease out of the carpet.
Yes, they will clean the grease just fine. They will also do a very nice job of dissolving the adhesive that is under the carpet. You will then have a loose spot on that part of the carpet.
Use goop.
take care

Sam's Club or Price/Costco usually sell Oxyclean. Works really well on most stains, including grease. Seems to be a good performer on all fabrics. I try not to believe all that "infomercial" stuff, but this product seems to work. Works on my boat! You can thank my wife, she first bought the stuff!
Castrol Super Clean works great.

Friend borrowed my boat. Put the grease gun on the floor of boat. Removed marine grease with GOJO. Replaced carpet one year later due to worn out in general. GoJo did no damage to carpet, adhesive, plywood.
Spilled cooking oil in the house. Used DL handlceaner to remove the stain AFTER I hired Rainbow Carpet Cleaning to remove it. Looked great for years.
Greasey shoes inside truck. GoJo or DL hand cleaner works great. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Grease on clothes after packing wheel bearings. Apply GoJo or DL, wash clothes as usual. Grease gone.
Shall I continue?

Early this summer, somebody blessed the carpet in my Suburban with a quarter-sized tar stain. After reading this post, I went out and hit it with a healthy shot of WD40, let it soak for about 30 seconds, and rubbed it out in less than a minute. THANX ! ! ! I vote for WD40.

There is a product you can buy at a hardware store called Carbo-sol. It's made buy Sunnyside corporation and what it is a dry cleaning fluid and general purpose degreasing solvent. It also contains Trichloroethylene which makes ir dry very fast. I also use it to remove ink stains on dress shirts. Believe me this stuff works great.

Just don't sniff it. Trico is hepatatoxic, carcinogenic. So is carbon-tet.

You are so right when you say don't sniff it. The stuff does work good

Hey Greaser
Sounds like he didn't spray the whole inside of the unit if you read the whole post and he is happy that the spot is gone.
