I've damaged the transducer cable on my Vexilar flasher (used on bowmount electric trolling motor), and need know:
1) can it be repaired, or can the cable from the transducer to the plug-in be replaced
2) what you do with the transducer and plug-in, if the cable can't be repaired or replaced.

I've got a new transducer mounted, and am back in business, but hate to discard the old one if it can be repaired.

We had an Eagle cable break at a tie wrap (I'll had to be more careful) and we fixed it quite easily. Not sure if it is "proper fix" but it is working fine again for us.

Cut it clean on both ends.
Strip back the outer coating.
Peel the "shielding" back, leaving enough to work with.
Strip the plastic protector from the main wire, giving enough to splice together - we folded it over so it was thicker.
Do that for both ends.

Then split some heat-shrink-wrap tubing down the cable for later. Make sure you have enough, and that it is big enough to cover butt splices.

We used small butt splice conectors. (Soime people would solder this, and the only reason we didn't was because we didnt have soldering iron handy and we weren't sure it this would work - it was a test.)
Splice together the main wire, folding over the wire that went into the splice to get a better hold in the butt splice. Crimp good.
For the shielding (outer wire) twist each end up to form a "wire" and then splice these together.
Try to leave as little "play" or excess as possible.
Slide the heat shrink tubing down over the splices and shrink it.

That worked for ours, and kept us from needing a new cable/xducer. This is our secondary unit that we really only use for depth, and it is working just fine for us now. Not sure if that is proper, but it works.

Good luck!

Man I spliced my X-85 cable on the water and still have not repaired it properly but the quick splice has worked in the rain and sunshine for 2 months and many fishing trips with no interference or problems. I figure if it quits I can splice it again in 5 min. and I,m good to go for another 2 months.

Splicing as Box described will work forever. Well done Box. I had trouble with the old Hondex(Vexilar transducers) breaking at the mounting tabs. Replaced transducer with an old Humminbird angle lock transducer. Just changed out the fitting on the Vexilar with a angle lock fitting and go. The frequencies are the same. Down here in Kansas we have to improvise.
