I'm heading to the Boundary Waters next month, and fishing will not be my primary focus. I don't want to bring any of my spendier rods (all of them are one-piece), so I'm looking for a dirt-cheap two piece or pack rod. Any suggestions?

Let me get this straight, your going to spend a bunch of money going on a fishing trip and the cheap out on the equipment you use? Buy somthing that will last for a lifetime of backwater fishing. There are some fine telescopic rods offer in the Bass Pro Shop master catalogs. Otherwise you may be able to find a PoPeels pocket fisherman somewhere. Hope you have the trip of a lifetime, with many hours of quality fishing.....

I agree, bring your good rod and buy a plastic tube that you can put the rod in while portaging. Lash the tube to the gunnel of the canoe and you will be much happier to have your good rod then a cheapie.
My grampa always said if it is too expensive to use, then it is too expensive to own.
Just a thought.

Eagle Claw makes several cheaper rods that you could look at. Myself, I would get a 6 ft. Ugly stik. You wouldn't have to worry about it breaking. But sounds like $30.00 bucks is a little more than you wanted to spend. I found a Shimano 7 ft.'er for sale for $17.00 one time. Sure it was their lowest model but I still love that rod and use it for deadsticking live bait. Good Luck in your search.
