Not exactly a boat question, but related. I am in the market for a new anchor. Most of my fishing is done on inland lakes, or the Missouri river in SD. I fish in all types of weather. I want an anchor that will hold in rough water and wind. The one that I am replacing just didn't seem to hold. I have a 17.5 ft Lund.
Any suggestions?

Richter anchors have been the best I've found. They come in 2 sizes 18lbs and 25lbs. I fish the same waters and they hold well on the Dakota wind swept waters. Cabelas has a sale on them right now. I would suggest you put 4-6' of chain with 100' of rope. The 18lb should work well, but the 25 lb will really stick you to a spot. The draw back with the Richters is they are hard to store. I keep mine in milk crates, and take them in and out of the boat when I feel I might need them. Hope this helps....

When I bought my Ranger, I needed an anchor that would hold in a river current & I bought an 18 lb Richter. IT HOLDS! and it releases when the rope is pulled in the opposite direction. My advice is to spend the extra dollars and get an anchor that will do the job.

i just use two anchors put a digger on the end and a heavier one about 5 feet up they both fit in a 6 gallon bucket and hold in the worse conditions i have faced (a lot cheaper then buying an anchor i find mine in the spring when the lake is low)

Another one for Pro Anchor from Guidemaster. The 18lb will work but for insurance the 25 lb will hold in anything.

I couldn't find Richter anchors on sale at Cabela's. Can you post the reference to the Cabela's sale?
