Hi,
I have been trying Yamamato tube jigs for walleye. I would say that they are a pretty good bait. Never seen "plastic" that fish will hang onto for this long.

Anyone else ever use these for walleye? I know they are great on smallies but when I started catching walleye on them especially this size I kinda forgot about the smallies!!!!

Yamamoto's are a great plastic bait. They're the single most used plastic bait used at Lake Powell. The senkos are all the rave in the bass world lately. The curly tail grubs work great for walleye. I've never used the senkos or the hula grubs for walleye, however.

Check them out at http://www.yamamoto.baits.com

Howdy, Roger

Hope all is well, or at least getting better!

I fish smallies with tubes on a regular basis, primarily in the spring. I don't know what the difference was this spring (late spring, smallies in deeper water, etc), but I couldn't believe the number of incidental walleyes we caught. Made a believer out of me!

Regards

You can tell the truth. It isn't to forget smallmouth, it is to catch walleyes to rest for a while. You'll be back.

Hi Dennis,

I have been trying the senkos but without success. Some of the bass pro tubes are working but no as great as the hula tubes. I'm about to head out again in a gew minutes. I'll let you know how I did.

Hi Dave,

All goes well! I hope it goes the same for you.

We were fishing for smallies and ended up catching walleye on the tubes and have been using the pattern since 3rd week of May. The walleye are going deeper but I'm just following them. It's been a slow drag on the bottom and then letting it sit. Been doing that right up to the boat and it's been working great.

Rig the senkos texposed (texas style, hook point exposed) and without any weight. Toss them into the shallows near rocks and weeds. If you've got frogs or crayfish you might want to rig one wacky style. Or nip off an inch and try a shorter senko. Even though I've caught small SMB on a 5" senko.

Do you still live right on the lake? Good luck.

Tubes are a main part of my arsenal when walleye fishing especially on the Mississippi. And NOT just Yamamoto tubes.
Tubes by Bass'n Man are good as are many other generic models. There are many tube manufacturers out there. You have alot to choose from. Color and feel and how the tails are cut are what make up a good tube. There`s an article in this issue of WC magazine dealing with the very subject of which we speak. It was basicly written with rivers in mind, but the techniques apply to lakes too. Tubes can do it. Beaver
