Looking for some input from my fishing buddies. I have 150 v-6 Mercury 1990. Been a good one (workhorse) I don't have an hour meter but normally I run 1400-1500 miles a year on the water. I am guessing aound 700-800 hours? We checked the compression and 5 cycliders are carrying 120 pounds and one 105. It is starting to nickel/dime me repairs. Would you consider upgrading? If so what moter would you buy? It is on a 690 Ranger and the boat is good so I don't think a new rig is the answer?
Thanks in advance for your response.

If the lower unit is in "known to be" Good condition... I would have that 150 rebuilt..about $3500... and run it till it died or I traded the boat... You do not get the $$$$ out of an older hull and newer engine when trade/sale time comes around... New motor...Bombardier...Yamaha...Honda/Suzuki (4stroke..and now new Johnson which is a Suzuki)

Good luck Seeyou SUnday

Yeah, I'd rebuild it, or look at a Merc 150efi. Cheaper than 4 stroke or DFI, and every bit as reliable, or better, than you xr6. Not sure how much, but maybe a few your old model from somebody who traded up to a DFI.

We have 97 efi and its a solid motor.

Godd luck,
