Have you tried the Epix? I bought a couple of them about a month ago, and believe me, they are the sweetest reel on the market. Ten bearings, and seem to be bullet proof, smoothest reel I have ever used, and I use some of the best. This website has the lowest price on the Epix series on the web. Check it out.....

I don't know if I would buy those reels. The charter I work for has bought 15 this season & has had trouble with 4.
They told him to box them up (he sent them over night) and hadn't gotten them back after 1 week.
Look good seem fine but I don't know if they will hold up.
Be CAREFUL
Is the Epix a spinning reel, baitcaster or what? I have 4 of the Magda linecounters and they are absolute junk. They are headed for the garbage.

I respectfully disagree with you on the okuma magda dx's. I'm on my third season with them fishing salmon and never had a single problem with any of them, and I have six.

I very much agree on the l/c's. Have had about 14 or 15 of them for about 5 years. Never a problem!!!!!!!! Not one! I know of several charter captains that use them on Erie AND Lake Ontario without problems. Send those babies to my "junk pile". They would be very much appreciated here.

The Epix is a spinning reel. In my opinion the best you can get for the money. have a look at there line of reels at http://www.okumafishing.com/products/reels/epix/epix.htm
I have been slowly replacing them with the Diawa SG27LCs. I have little confidence in the accuracy of the Magda linecounter. When reeling back in they are rarely even close to coming back to zero. When letting line out it will read, say, 40 feet while I know there is close to 80. This is with a full spool. One of the reels lost its clicker button on its second time out. I seem to be constantly retightening the machine screws which hold the thing together.
Maybe I just got a bad batch? I cannot believe that the drags hold out to the rigors of salmon fishing. They do not seem as well put together as the diawas whose drags are smooth as silk. The price is definitely right with the Magdas, but......the saying "you get what you pay for" is usually accurate nine times out of ten. I have no complaints with the diawas.
If you go to the Okuma website they will direct you to several web dealers.

Talk to Captain Frank Kittrick from Y-Not charters about the okuma l/c's. :-)
I must respond to the negative remarks on this site about Okuma reels. I have three of them and my fishing partner has five of them. Neither one of us has had a problem using them several hours a day fishing lake Erie. The drags are very smooth when set right. They are very accurate at line out and in measurements if you do not accidentally hit the reset button. They are responsible for the lowering of prices on the Daiwa line counters in order to be competitive. I also use my Okuma's for Stripers which are one of the strongest fighting fish out there. They are a good quality reel at a good price. I just ordered an Epix based on the satisfaction with my Okuma line counters.
