View Full Version : Lund 1775/90 HP Mercury
I'M looking at a 1995 1775 with a 90 on it I know you should max the HP but the price is right.I have a 1660 now and go mid 40s,it only weights about 200lbs more than my 1660.Will I have any problems? GREAT FISHING JIM
The 1775 is a great boat. It is also a fairly large boat. I believe that this boat is currently rated for a 150 or a 175. So, with a 90 hp, you are considerably under max power.
The 90 hp motor will power the boat just fine. If you want to do a lot of trolling - you can pitch down, and run a 15 pitch prop, and get a nice slow trolling speed. Then if you run a maximum pitch of about a 17 or mayby a 19 pitch, you will get to almost 40 mph. With this much boat, and with the hull design, which tends to keep a lot of boat in the water - you are going to be hard pressed to get any more speed than 38-40 mph, with this engine.
You will be able to run all day at that speed however, and with the power being only 1/2 or so of maximum, you should never break the boat.
If you can live with the speed - this will be a great economical very fishable rig.
Take care

p.s.
If you do run this rig, have them rig it so that the motor is mounted 3 holes up.

I had a 1775 with a 115hp and it was low on power. If the lake was calm, no problem, but rough water it was a bear keeping controlling and keeping the nose at the angle you wanted.
But if the price is right, better than no boat!!
The secret to having adequate planing power, with a large boat and a smaller motor is to reduce the pitch on the prop.
For this rig, going down to a 15 or 14 pitch prop, will give you lots of rough water boat control at the expense of speed.
With a 14 pitch prop, you will only get 30 mph, but you will have lots of hole shot, and great rough water performance.
Take care

I have a 1890 Pro-v Tourn. series with a 90 hp. and don't have any complaints about power, what hole should I have motor set at for max. power?
I have a '99 MR. PIKE 17 w/90 on it and it will run 35 to 40mph. I think my boat is just a little wider. It handles rough water well and has enough room for three(sometimes four) to fish. You should do fine.

An acquaintance had a 1775 Pro Vee with a 90 Honda. It would run about 42mph with one angler, moderate load. He did have a 24v trolling motor, so batteries added to the load.
The 90 Merc has less displacement than the Honda, so will be slightly slower.

I have a 1993 Lund 1775/90 HP Mercury with top end at 36 mph. My friend has exactly the same boat only it is a 97 with a 115 Merc, top end 43. We are always fishing the great lakes trolling together for safety. He comments everytime that he wishes he would have got the 90 HP for gas economy. He easily would give up the extra speed for less money on Gas.
