Has anyone done this? Set the NMEA out on one unit, in on the other? My question is does it work? Is it reliable? Do you need to reset the config for the units every time you turn them on? Any help would be great.

A question I have:
Referring to the actual X15 itself (just the head)
If you get a X15MT without GPS is it the same as an X15MT with GPS?

Yes it does work, yes it is reliable. I have this setup and also used an identical one on my cousin's boat. If you have a 3000MT and a X-15MT, there isn't really any advantage to connecting the NMEA interfaces except a couple. If you log your sonar data on the X-15, it will also have the ability to show your position where you marked that school of bait fish, rock, structure, etc.
The other advantage is if you have one unit at the bow and the other at the console (or tiller electronics). They both can share one GPS module. Most useful when both units are X-15's.
You do not need to reset or reconfigure either unit every time they are turned on. The only time they need to be reset are if the software is upgraded and/or the units undergoe a master reset.
The X-15 has a GPS connection at the back in case the 3000MT goes down. So yes the X-15MT is the same with or w/o GPS. The only difference is the GPS module itself and the added GPS software.
