I am thinking of about getting into an 1800 pro-v tiller and would like some input on these 2 motors. My marina that I deal with handles both, and I don't believe I want to go with a carb motor this time. I don't have any experience with the large four strokes, I understand that they don't come out of the hole as well as a two stroke. I am looking for input on these two motors. No bashing please. thanks in advace

I ran a fuel injected four stroke 70 HP Suzuki on a 20ft Alaskan for three years. It would jump out of the water with 3 full grown men and go! I could only imagine what a 90hp fuel injected motor would do. It would have to be fuel injected for me though.
I understand that the 1800 is about 300 lbs heavier but it will also have about 20 more HP's. I think the four stroke will be more of a pleasure to troll with. I'm sure either way it will be a nice rig.
Good luck!

Happy Holiday's!
I run the 1800 Pro V with a 90 black fourstroke and love the combo. I surely don't lack power out of the hole for fishing....maybe a little short for drag-racing.lol Yes, all 4 strokes are a little short out of the hole but the fish weigh the same at the end.
The Ficht engines, which I have zero recent experience with, sound better than in the past. Either should work fine. I am perfectly happy and trouble free with the black 90 4 stroke. This combo is a great fishing rig for all applications and all water.
You gotta have a Lund with a black outboard!
Unless it has changed for 2003, the Merc 90 4 stroke is not fuel injected. Nice motor but still has carbs.

Fishhogg, I ran a 70 hp 4 stroke Johnson DFI that was actually a Suzuki for four years. Had the engine on a 1750 fishhawk and was a great combo. Super for trolling. The engine had electronic fuel injection. Never a bit of trouble. The guy that bought my rig loves it and trools all the time. I will not go back to carbs again. Once you try any engine that is fuel injected that starts instantly in cold weather and runs smoothhhhhhhhhh you will be hooked. Just my opinion based on 4 years of use. Take care.

I've had a 90 horse Ficht tiller on my 1900 tiller for three seasons now. The only problem I've had with the motor is a cracked fuel pump that was giving me troubles for a while. I did also have some trouble with the trim but that was self-inflicted (I had to hotwire one morning before a tournament when I snapped my key off in the ignition). The fichts are great on oil and fuel, its just as good as a four stroke if not better. I'm probably nearing 800 hrs on the motor and probably 700 of it has been trolling, It continues to troll nicely, (about 2 mph). The only complaint I have is it is too slow but that is because the boat is underpowered. All in all I would say that I would consider putting another one on my next boat. Although If Merc would put a tiller handle on there 135 opti I would definately by that over anything because I could get the smartgauges on it.
