View Full Version : Galvanized trailer painting
I have a 97 Fisher Hawk 181DC on a galvanized trailer. The boat is green/tan with a burgandy stripe. I would like to paint the trailer a tan to match the boat. Any thoughts on primer and finish products. I would also like to convert this dual console to a single-any Fisher people out there with suggestions. Keep Fishin!

My advice is to keep your trailer the way it is. Painted trailers do nothing but chip from road debris. All painted trailers look like heck shortly if you do any amount of towing.

Don't even think about it.Don't paint your galvanized trailer.I have 2 of them and one is 10 years old and still looks new, friends of mine have some painted trailers that are only 4 years old and look terrible due to rust and all the paint thats come off.Galvanized is the only way to go.
Anyone want to buy a galvanized trailer to fit an 18' boat. Has new tires, new surge galvanized and stainless brakes? This may make more sense than painting it hey. Thanks for your replies-anyone in the painting industry offering advice?

As the others have said, keep the galvanized. Painted trailers look good for about 2 years , then all the stone chips begin rusting.
As for converting to a single console, it should not be terribly difficult to do. The passenger console can be taken out, but getting matching carpeting for the floor and side might be the most difficult part of the conversion. Some original carpet can be salvaged from the console front and side (as well as the under side where your legs are). Hopefully there will be enough. Personally, when I had a 181 I went to a full walk-through windshield. Speaking of which---I have a trailering cover for the dual windscreen 181 in matching tan Sunbrella fabric (Hurricaine Custom Cover). Used about 6 times (garage kept)before I went to full windshield. Would take $60 (plus shipping) if you are interested.
