We are not too happy with a decent but older tech HP deskjet for
digital photo prints. Good printer otherwise. Can you guys/gals recomend a higher digital photo quality printer? Best brand/model/price? Experiences?

I have just purchased a new HP 932 C. It sells for 148.00 Dollars at Wallmart. It prints excellent text and photo quality color prints. This printer is considered one of the top printers by PC World Magazine. I have owned several HP printers and this one is the best. The printer is quite fast and very quiet.

I used several different inkjet printers with OK results until I got a dye-sublimation printer from sony. The colors don't fade like inkjet and its a much sharper image without all the dots. I have a older sony printer but I see they have a new one out which prints 4 x 6 with no boarders. It sells for $350.00 on the sony web site but I have seen them at local electronics stores but I don't remember the price.

For the money, nothing beats the HP952C. I've got one at the office and one at home for the digital photos. We exclusively use HP high gloss paper and the combination produces teriffic prints. We go through an ink cartridge every couple days so it gets a lot of work.

Can't go wrong for under $300.

Not the quietest, by far, & slow, but high quality prints are made by "MD" technology up to 2400 dpi. resolution on the MD5000.

The MD 2010 is great for prints & is often offered on ebay for under $100.

The MD1000 has more capabilities(can print in white),usually runs $200-300.
I have both a 1000, & a 2010 & I use them to make FADEPROOF decals for our custom rods with beautiful results. Waterproof, too. & metallic capabilities.

Your best source for information on this is the Digital Camera Resource Page:
http://www.dcresource.com/

They have a message board there that is as useful to digital photography as this one is to walleye fishing (which is saying a lot). The consensus among the experts is that the Epson Photo Stylus is your best bet. If you have a CompUSA near you, they're discontinuing the Epson 870 Photo printer. With rebate, it's under $100. I got one last week to replace my HP Photo Printer, because it makes professional quality prints very cheaply.

From what I've heard, Lexmark is the economy brand printer.

Fuzzy,
Speaking from personal exp here....
I had a Lexmark, it was ok, but the print quality was not what I expected. It broke down about 2 months ago so I went printer shopping.
I settled on the new Cannon S600 and I absolutely love it! The print quality is unbelieveable and I really like the way they have their ink cartridges set up. When one color such as blue runs out, you just have to replace the blue, not all 3 colors like you have to with a Lexmark or another brand. The cost of the cartridges is very reasonable, $10 a piece in contrast to $40 with a Lex.
Check it out and see what you think.

I bought an HP932C 1 year ago. The quality of my photo prints are just awesome. Can't say enough good things about it. Best photo printer for the money, bar none.

I bought an HP970Cse about 2 years ago, been a great printer and the prints on glossy paper are as good or better than most i've had developed from my 35MM, it ran about $400.00 when it first came out but it's probabaly about half that now, also does automatic 2 sided printing.
