Hey there is a survey being done on a Early season trophy bass season. We want to try and get the MNR to open it for an early season C&R and possible keep 1 trophy. Check it out it is on the Bass haven Canada website. Sounds like a better idea than people fishing illegally for them, want input from everywhere.

Sure would be nice if this could be a joint effort with the Michigan DNR, but I'm probably dreaming. On the contrary, I've heard reports of the MDNR really cracking down on those targeting bass out of season. Seems awful silly to close the season on bass when the "incidental" catch is so high.
Now Hunter, about that one rod per angler thing.........

Probably wont happen but it is worth a shot. If we can get input on people willing to travel here to fish a season like this, I think the local business men are going to start screaming about potential revenues being lost.
As for two rods on St.Clair or the river, it would be nice trolling for muskies, but I have my hands full with one on these bodies of water when fishing eyes or bass. This has to be one of the best smallie lakes in the world. I know I have fished none better and probably never will.

Ummmm.....Don't Bass spawn in the spring and are on their nests? Won't this hurt the wee little Bass that grow to be big Bass by taking away or disturbing their parents. I like the seasons the way they are.

So go fill out the survey, it is asked if you agree or disagree with it. I am not telling you to approve of it, vote anyway you want. But I know for a fact people are fishing them ilegally, I saw several guys on the flats casting tubes the last 2 saturdays. MNR doesnt want to patrol it, open it up and let everyone have a fair shot at them.

Makes sense and might make me buy a Canadian license. First, I hated to see all those FLW pro's breaking the law last Friday pre-fishing for the upcoming tour event this week. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Second, I THINK the lake can take "the damage to the spawn". There are so many bass out there you can't run planer boards for walleye...gotta bring in that line with the pesky smallmouth on it. I love 'em and want to preserve the fishery, but a catch and release season would do no harm here at this time, cause it's already being done.
