Are there any other skeeter owners out there??
I just closed on my boat yesterday (ZX 1775 SC) and have some rigging questions?
First among many is: EXACTLY where is the best place to mount the sonar/speed pickups. I can see many bad places but not too many good ones.
I have only been reading this site for two weeks but I bet it's saved me gobbs of time, aggrivation, and most importantly fishingdollars allready.
Thanks,
Mark

Mount your transducers and speed pick-up at the bottom of the hull, not at the back of the stepped transom. And if you look, there is really only one area on that location that is not blocked by ribs of the hull. I have the 2001 tiller model and have been given a lot of good advice from this board. If you need anything else, just ask.

I run a ZX 1950, so I doubt if my info will help you, but I do have a stepped transom too. I have 2 transducers siliconed in the bilge area and it has worked great. I can't help you with the speed wheel. My guess is that if you installed it on the back face of the transom it would work at slow speeds only, because of the step. And on my boat at least, it appears it would be difficult to mount it at the step in the transom without some sort of custom shaped mounting board to account for the radius of the hull corner. Maybe someone else can help you there. I have been using gps for all speed info, and I can't say that I miss the speed wheel at all. Good luck with the new rig.

I own a ZX2050 and I can tell you that you have made a great choice in boats. I also use GPS for speed and I would recommend that if you are still in the process of rigging you get a GPS if at all possible. (It's only money. Remember, its easier to get forgivness than to get permission) If you need to place the speed wheel somewhere obviously it needs to stay in the constant stream of water. Try to place it so it won't be in the way if you need to climb in the boat from back end. I have two boys who love to cannonball off the front when the temp. gets to high. I guarantee someone will try use it to help themselves into the boat. The same for the transducer. After you place the transducer you should put another safety-type system to keep the transducer out of your prop should it get knocked off somehow.
Good luck and good fishing

Skeeter doesn't get alot of press here. Personally I think they're one of the best glass walleye boats out there. The livewells aren't built the same way Ranger builds them, but as good or better as any body else's. I think you made an excellent choice, have fun and enjoy......

Still looking at the 2050?

Do you mean mounting it just below the drain plug?
The bunks on the trailer interfere with some of the other spots.
If yours is working (no noise or interference from bubbles or cavitation) Would it be possible for you to email me a crude sketch?
Thank you,
Mark

Thanks for the advise on the GPS for speed info (Jigtugger too) that'll save two holes in my transom and I can always mount the speed wheel later if I can't live without it.

Does the factory mounted flasher pickup work at speed?

Thanks to all who responded

I have a Skeeter 2050ZX and have had nothing but trouble with the boat and the manufacture rep. We are now in a legal battle to try and get some satisfaction from factory. Good Luck with your boat.

So give up some details. Being a Skeeter owner, I would love to hear more. Email me if you don't want to use the message board.

Hey Eyez, I'm still on the hunt yet, I'm a man of complete indecision right now. The 2050 has been a favorite, but I need to sell my boat first. Have fun ice fishin' this weekend, I'll be at work, thinkin' about fishing......

Hey Putter

I've got a ZX 2050 and it's a very good boat plus everyone that's been in it loves it. I'd love to hear your issues.

Marky,

I've got the same boat in the tiller version, great boat and I love it! I second the other guys opinion about glassing in the transducers, mine came from the factory with 3 lowrance tranducers and it works great. Another plus is the fact that you have no outside ducers to get bumped by the trailer bunks or anything else for that matter. Best of luck and enjoy the new toy.

I have a 98 1775 DC with a 150 V-max and both speed wheels and ducers are mounted on the lowerstep on a 8" long plastic ducer board that is mounted just above flush with the bottom.
I like my boat and am happy with it's performance in rough water.
It way outperforms the same size aluminum Lund, Alumacraft, Crestliner, in rough water I blow by them like they are idling.

I have absolutely no cracking of any gelcoat anywhere the boat does about 55 mph gps with the jackplate I have on it and fishes very well.

One mod I made and I do not know if the 2003 1775 are built the same but the kick plate for the driver and passenger side by your feet is the end of the side rod locker and you can only get 6.5' rods in there.
I cut the corner off the kickplate and now the tips of the rods will go up along side the livewell and all the way to the bow storage area in the top rod storage section on both sides.

I have not looked lately at the 1775 did they go to the center rod storage or are they still the side storage same as mine???

Pitts, I was told by Skeeter rep that they reworked the 1775 and call it the 1790. Same hull, just set up differently inside. He was vague on the specifics. He did say they changed the rear splashwell/live well. Don't know what else....

The new 1790 is in tiller version only.
My dealer called his factory rep and was told that the 1775 SC and DC
won't get redesigned for at least another year.
The picture of the 1790 in my 2003 brochure shows the new livewell and also center rod storage.

Pitts,

I like the sound of your rod storage and txducer mounting ideas.
Any chance you have a picture of the transducer mounting you could email?
