My wife received a rod and reel from her grandpa. The reel is a Shakespeare 1959 Intrinsic model GK. The rod, looks like it is probably 40 years old as well, but it has no information on it. It is a steel rod with intersting steel guides and a cork handle.
My question is, would anyone know the approximate value of the rod and reel? Just to satisfy my curiosity, I know it is worth more in sentiment than $$$. Thanks

You need to talk with an active member of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (NFLCC). They hold meets regularly and are spread across the country. Try an internet search.

Since I have similar rods and reels, many much older than yours, I think it's safe for me to say you should not get your hopes up too high. I'd put the rod/reel combo in the $20 to $35 class. But, it does not hurt to run a check.

The GK is the dating system for Shakespeare reels, the G is 4 and the K is 1, therefore, your reel was made in 1941. The reel on an unmarked steel rod, in excellent shape, would be worth approximately $25. I hope this helps.
