View Full Version : Lowrance X-15 Transducer problem
LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-01 AT 09:14PM (CST)[p] Lowrance sent me a brand (2.1.0) new unit and I went on a trip to Lake of the Woods. My transducer I have is a 50/200 and that came with my original (1.1) unit back in late December. The unit kept loosing the bottem. It was worse when I was moving and sometimes it would read for a 1/2 mile and then it would start flashing the last depth I was in and then start working again. Then when I was standing still,it seemed to work better but the depth was sometime 8 feet off my other unit in 30 feet of water. I have a St-Tex 106 and a Zercom Gimbl Pro and the read the same but the X-15 was off. Then sometimes it read the same as my other units. The other times it would read 70 feet when I was in 24 feet. I moved the transducer farther away from the motor and I seemed to help alittle when moving but is still lost the bottom. I also tried changing the angle of the trausducer but that did not seem to help. I also tried changing the Ping and that did not help. In other words I got sick of looking at it and turned it off. Has anyone experience this problem and could it be the transducer. There was some talk about the older software having to much power and damaging the transducers.
I think the problem is the dual frequency transducers. I have been told that if you throw that away and replace it with a plain old skimmer transducer they will work great forever.
It may be worth a try.

What software version do you have in. I had lots of that type of problems till I put 2.1 in. I had mine out on West Okoboji yesterday, and it worked flawlessly, for the first time since owning it. When I was having problems, I would turn the auto depth off, and that would help alot. Dont know what to tell ya, but you are not alone in this deal. Frustrating, aint it. When they work, there are none better

For some reason I heard someware along the way that the 50/200 transducer were bad. I will call Lowrance tomorrow and see what they think. When I have called them in the past someone told me there that they were not having problems with the X-15 which I find hard to believe. GW,where did you hear that that they were bad?

I had a similar problem with my BottomLine.
I had the same type issues, until my motor died on the lake.
We went thru all the electrical connections & got the motor running & one of the by-products was the Bottomline worked great after that.
Check your grounds & fuses.......I(it lookslike now)had an intermittant ground....Just enough for the transducer to flip in and out but not allow the display to power down.
Just a suggestion.......especially the fuses...make sure they are firmly seated. Desperation loves company.
