I am looking at purchasing an Alumacraft Trophy 175 with a 115hp 4-stroke of some brand. Since I do a lot of trolling with crankbaits I am concerned about being able to troll slow enough, 1-3 mph. Most dealers have told me that this will not be a problem. However, before I jump into this I am looking for some feedback from others who may have a similar sized boat/motor set up. Thanks so much!!

Had a Lund Pike 17 w/115 Yam. Would troll down to 3.0-3.5 per X85 w/19 pitch SS prop. Never did check it with gps. Previous owner had intalled Yam T-8 kicker for trolling. If your budget allows, I would recomend it if you do a lot of trolling. I was told at the time that the F115 didnt like the low rpm's required of trolling. I believe it even said in the manual that it was not recommended. Wonderful motor however. EFI is unbelievable and super quite. Top end on my rig was 42-45mph depending on conditions. If you go back in the archives there is a lot of info on the merc/yam 115. Good luck to you!

Have a 1700 Fisherman with a Honda 115hp, turning a 13-3/4" 15 pitch prop. I can troll down to about 1.4-1.5mph GPS no problem.

go with the kicker ,easy on that big motor ,it really wasn;t ment to troll all day ,and the kicker is a back up for that one time you really need a second motor .you won;t evev know its there .p.s. hook up doul controls makes life seay .jim

I have a Yam F115 on a 1700 Crest Super Hawk and I cannot troll with the motor just engaged as I will be moving too slow to troll cranks. The four strokes dial down slow enough that you might even be able to pull spinner rigs. I agonized over buying a kicker but have found there is little need unless you want to spend the money.

Yamaha 115 4 stroke on 1900 Lund. 2.1gps. With 2 sea anchors 1.4 and still experimenting. I have had it for 2 seasons, trolled 8-10hrs a day over a dozen times each season, NO problem and great gas mileage.
They set idle at around 700rpm.
I would like to get down to .8mph but like I said I am experimenting and will try to utilize my bow troller a little more.

What size and pitch of prop are being used?
What rpm is the motor operating at?
Please estimate the weight of your boat and motor which could affect the speed of your troll?

Thanks

115HP 4-stroke Suzuki on a 1675 Lund ProSport. Trolls down to 1.5 mph with a 19 pitch prop at 6,000' elevation. Mighty fine motor if you check the archives.

You can troll all day at that slow speed with no insult to the motor.

2002 Lund Pro SPort/ Merc 115 4 Stroke 19 pitch SS Prop.. Trolls Crankbaits perfectly I would guess in the range of 1.6-2.4 MPH depending how the boat is loaded, wind, waves, etc . Also its been hard to get a consistant reading on My Lowrance X91 Speedwheel I have tried moving it many times.. Anyone else seen this with their Lowrance? My Handheld GPS reads 1.7-2.5 mph but my handheld GPS also does not seem to read accurately at LOW speeds.
