just back from boat show. looked at an alumacraft trophy 2000, yamaha 200 4 stroke, tandem karavan trailer w/brakes,suntop, and 8 horse yamaha 4 stroke kicker with controls. gave me a best price of $27,100. seems like a pretty decent price. what do you guys think? have an 1850 sportfish(crestliner) now with 115 evinrude. thinkng bout upgrading due to 3 growing boys, dog etc. what do you think of the brands mentioned for that price? any help would be appreciated. thanks

sorry, would also like feedback on the yamaha hpdi motor also as the dealer said this is an excellent motor as well. funny how all the dealers say their product is the leader in the field! :)

I don't think you'll go wrong with either motor. The HPDI is every bit as good as the 4-stroke, and visa-versa. You'll get the usual contraversy about the 4-stroke vs. 2-stroke, but the Yammies are fine motors. Sounds like a pretty nice outfit at a decent price.
If I can ever get rid of this Black piece of junk hanging on the back of my boat, I'll get myself a real motor!

A black piece of junk. Would that be a Force OB?

No, it would be a 150 Merc. Its extremely hard starting, has the worst fuel consumption of any motor I've ever owned. I had a 25' Pro-line with twin Yamaha 200's on it, and it used less fuel than this Merc does on a 21' Center Console. Its not like its a speed demon either, nor do I run it wide open all the time. And, yes, I've had it back to the dealer many times, all to no avail. They always give you some aba-daba-doo, try it now and see how it is, lets try this, and before you know it, BINGO, warranties expired! Sure, we can check it now, for $72 per hour.
Maybe I just got a bad one, but,
ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY, BABY!
My next motor will be silver or gray or whatever color Yammies are, or maybe a Honda!

Ranger, thats what I had in mind. I'll probably have to trade the whole boat in for a new one, because first of all, I couldn't find it in my heart to sell that motor to another fisheman, and second of all, no self respecting dealer would give me half of whats its worth for trading just the motor. Maybe it'll fall off in the big pond this spring, or something.

You stated that a Force ob is a piece of junk. If you had some experance or know some one who has let us know so we will be on the look out for same problems.

I never said Force was a piece of junk, I said I had a Black piece of junk on the back of my boat. Someone else mentioned Force. At this point, a Force might be a better option than the "Merc" thats there now!
