View Full Version : Mounting lms-240 antena (Best Location)
I have an Alumicraft Trophy Sport 175 and am getting ready to mount a new lms-240 where is the best place to mount the antena. I have always used a hand held gps so I need a little insight on location for the antena.
Thanks

Tony:
I have found in my experience that the to receive the most accurate position and speed reading, especially at slower trolling speeds, the best place to mount a GPS antenna is as far forward and as close to the boats centerline as possible. This allows for the antenna to "record" even the slightest adjustment in direction and gives the most accurate Speed Over Ground at slow speeds. I mount the antennas for both of my GPS units on the front pad used for mounting the trolling motor, directly behind the socket for the bow running light. To avoid having to drill holes and try to thread bolts from underneath, I use a cheap plastic non-adjustable VHF radio antenna mount and mount the GPS antenna onto the cone that comes with the unit. Then simply drill a small hole under the mount for the cable to go through and screw the antenna onto the mount. Actually quite simple and a decent looking install.

Tony I have a 2400 GPS which should have the same antenna as your lms 240.
My round hocky puck looking antenna has 4 screws into the bottom of it and is mounted to the right of the windshield on the gunnel.
I did not use the cone mount and pipe method it seemed silly to raise it only 6" since it is out in the open anyway.
Never had any problems getting readings on satellites ever.
Good luck.
