I need to mount a plate that will accomodate a handlining reel on my boat. The only problem is, there is no access to underneath the gunnel to put a nut on the bolt. How do you guys with Rangers mount rod holders etc. Can I just put screws into the top of the fiberglass and not worry about using bolts? What type of screw would I have to use. Thanks a lot for help.

Dave if you have rails on the boat you can mount it to them. If not i would recommend thru bolting. I have mine mounted on ram mounts the kind you would mount electronics to. It has worked very well for me.

Thanks, I was thinking that the rails were not far enough forward in the boat, but I guess that's not the case.

Dave,
My husband is having a similar problem with his Ranger. He'squick to take my advice, so I'll pass it along to you. Why don't you have the mount installed by a professional. Its likely not too expensive and I'm sure your wife would agree, you have bigger fish to fry than this. You could be practicing your techniques or sorting through your tackle while someone else is doing the work...no fuss, no muss.
