I got an e mail today from evinrude/bombardier saying "Imagine outboard engines years beyond 2-stroke, 4-stroke or even direct injection.
Well, they?re coming.
Learn about this revolution in outboard technology on the brand new Evinrude.com web site Wednesday night, February 12."
I guess we will find out what this is on wednesday, but doesn anyone know anything about these new motors?

I'm betting its a magna fluxed, matter/anti-matter propulsion system

isn't that their 5 hp air cooled that is going by the Briggs name? LOL I still love my 98 175 Rude with good old carbs. Looking forward to seeing what is coming.

Posssibly a Rotax engine. Just a guess!

When you go to www.evinrude.com they have a count down clock on there. It says the revolution begins in 1 day 8 hours. Hmmmmmmm

Maybe a Wankel rotary motor ? The only non-piston, no stroke
internal combustion engine.Whew, cool, smooth, Hi RPM and compact.
As 'clean' as a four stroke, power like a two stroke !!!!
CWS - could be a ROTAX but, that is just a different intake
system for a two-stroke, its very clean compared to a reed/piston
port intake system traditional to boat motors.
I don't know how they would design the engine block and intake
tracts, the unique 'rotax' intake system would be difficult to
incorporate into 'V' blocks, easy in a simple 2 and 3 cylinder-
'snowmobile layout'
Or, if memory serves somebody was trying to make a THREE stroke
motor the ORBITAL ????

I think its a magneto propulsion system that would make it virtually undetectable by sonar.

Yeah, it is a magneto drive and they are going to call it "Red October".

Catch? What do you mean? I work for Evinrude and that is the name of the new motor.

I would guess it's their SDI (semi direct inject) for their smaller hp engines. This year in appeared in one of their snowmobile engines. Assume that it is less expensive than Ficht, especially on the 75Hp and less.

Whatever they come out with Iam sure it will be awsome and they will back it.

After reading the tech. article on their website, it appears that they are using a four stroke power plant with the semi-direct injection technology that they introduced in their 800 CC snowmobile engine last season. Hard to say though, as it said a lot about components, but didn't really clarify. They did make their comparisons with the four stroke technology though in weight camparison and emmissions. What they didn't elude to was fuel economy or performance from a torque/RPM curve compared to the existing technologies. That is what I really wanted to know. Hopefully they will post those items for all to see, rather than reading about it in B&W Boat magazine. Any one out there have an exact clarification to this new improved technology in regard to performance? Would love to hear more. All in all, it will definately raise the bar (and cost I'm sure)of outboards to come. Hopefully for the better.
