Had a pretty good day today out on the water, caught some fish and nothing really bad happened. Was heading home when a bag slipped ontop of the trolling battery. The zipper hit the terminals and poof fire time. got lucky and just burned the bag and a plastics binder. Anybody else having a good story invling just dome freak accidnet? There's mine, so come on and post them fellas (and ladies).

You got lucky this time.
First, batteries in an open cockpit should always be in a battery box with the terminals shielded.
If the batteries are in compartments, thats all that should be in there. The terminals should also be covered. Batteries give off acidic fumes. Give them the room to "breathe".
Oh yeah, once when I was a kid of about 4-5 yo, I stuck one of my mom's hairpins into the wall outlet. That's how I learned about electricity. Needless to say, I have NEVER forgatten that day!
One more, my cousin was working on his boat. He was putting a new battery in with an uninsulated socket wrench. When tightening one terminal, the wrench handle contacted his wedding ring at the precise moment the opposite side of the wedding ring contacted the other terminal. ZAP! - The burst of current "welded" his wedding ring to the socket handle. And his finger didn't look too good either - he almost lost it. It was "cooked" all around where the ring was.
Be careful around batteries!

see, theres proof, marrage can hurt....lol.
last year, when putting up on plane to travel to another spot, I left my kicker motor in the down position. It was left in gear or was bumbed in to gear. Any way, When we go to where we were going, I brought it down, only to hear another motor running. I shut off the main motor ( which is loader that the kicker ) And found it running... It was just a weired thing...

i took off with my kicker motor down last year...(i shudder
to think of what could have happened) but the force of the
water tipped it up and it latched all by itself.

my bow mount electric troller had a long cable to the foot
controller that i kept near my in the back of the boat by
my tiller motor. the cable was strung along the side of the boat and tucked inbetween the bench seat and the inside wall of the boat.
a friend of mine was sitting on the bench seat in just the
right position and pinched the cable hard enough to get down
to bare wires. there was much more smoke than a person would
think there would be from a little wire. i heard the commotion
and saw the smoke totally engulf my now anxious buddy to tried
his best to sprint away from the fire in a 16 foot fishing
boat.
the doctor said my friend would have survived if i hadnt
filleted him

I don't know how "freak" this is cause I've seen (the result) twice,..but guys that leave an anchor just laying on the bow with a lot of line out, generally in pleasure boats but I've seen this in some sports boats. The anchors hapen to be of the folding type but I'm sure others could do this,...it rattles off the bow causing the boat to flip. I've heard this happening to another that didn't flip him but he did the fastest turn in his life,...

Was witness to tragedy on the Maumee river in oOhio several years ago while wading it. Two anglers had car topped in a 12ft aluminum boat. They anchored at the head of an 8 ft hole tieing a "bungle" knot through the top of the front keel with trhe dam opening some 2 miles up stream there boat being tied so high the water pressure with one of them in the front trying to unstick the anchor rolled the rig over drowning one of them and the site of that boat coming up and going under like a wobbling spoon still haunts me. Swift current and shale rocks that hold anchors forever, do not mix.
