I am looking at purchasing the following motor from Cabelas for $429.00.
Brand: Motorguide
Type: Mr. Walleye, signatures series by Gary Roach
Thrust: 52lbs
Shaft: 60 in
volts: 12v
motor has variable speed, big water gator mount, Dura Amp 2 for increased battey life
IS THIS A GOOD, RELIABLE MOTOR?

I had a thread on this motor a few months ago. Most of the advice I got was negative towards the motor. Search the archives and you should find it.

Thanks Badger
After reading that, I think I will stick with MinneKota!

That's what I decided after getting alot of very good input from quite a few guys.
Good luck with the new motor.

My dealer told me they quit handling MotorGuides because of all the problems the MotorGuides have had. The dealer told me they would sell me one if I really wanted it but then I was on my own. They said they hated to say that and tell that to their customers but they really did not want to sell those because of the problems.
Moving on sounds like a wise choice.
It is interesting -
If you are south of the mason dixon line - you will find nearly 0 minnkota motors on the bass boats. If you talk to the bass fisherman - they completely love their motor guide motors, and would never have a different motor.
If you go north of the mason dixon line - you find many more minnkota motors; and most of these owners won't own a motor guide.
Personally - I have owned both brands, and have been very satisfied with both brands.
Each has had their share of minor problems - which have been quickly resolved by the company.
I wouldn't hesitate buying a motor guide - if it was the motor with the features that I wanted.
I also wouldn't hesitate buying a minnkota - if it was the motor with the features that I wanted.
It is your money - you make the choice that makes sense to you.
If you look at the total number of motors out there - and talk to the respective owners - I expect that you will generally find mostly satisfied owners - with either brand of motor.
You will also find a small group of each brands owners - who absolutely hate their motors.
Take care

The first motorguide I owned, I used for 3 yrs. with no problems. I'm currently on the 4th year on my second motorguide and no problems so far. I have also owned minnkota with no problems. I would and have owned either one.As long as it had the features and the price I wanted, brand would'nt make a difference to me.just my opinion
