Does a Pinpoint Trolling Motor really work like they say it will? What kind of problems do they have? How about repairs and turn around time?I have been looking at a Pinpoint 3700 series trolling motor. Will they follow the depth that you set it at? I've heard rumors that they will not work the way they are marketed. I presently have a 24volt autopilot that has worked well but would like to be able to follow a breakline etc. The literature makes them sound to good to be true. What is your experience with them? Thanks for the help !!

I've had mine for 4-5 years now and it has become an important piece of my angling arsenal. It works well if you have a decent breakline to work with. If it is a very gradual, slow taper, it becomes "confused" and searches around looking for the proper depth. An example of its use: When guiding, I can set the depth and let it do the work while I help clients with fish, etc. It's almost like having a first mate in the boat with me. I do a good deal of weedline trolling for crappies and it works great. I'll fish a 200 yard stretch until the fish start to thin out then hit a button and the motor turns 180 degrees and goes back in the other direction. Only problem is if it's very windy. Then it does have some problems staying on course but then again, what doesn't. Company has been very good to work with. Fairly quick turn around.

Jimmy,
So far so good. I have a 3700 series on my boat.
It work so-so on shore track. (I am still getting adjusted to the unit) but far as the Depth-Track YES it work great!
You cannot believe how nice it is.
I was finding walleyes just of a edge of a reef.
16' top- 30+'bottom. They would hit as I came off the edge
at about 24'. So I just set my Pinpoint* at 24 feet and tracked the edge of the reef.
1st you slip up and down from 24 feet as the motor tracks along and adjusts the contour of the reef.
2nd You learn the shape of the reef!
(This is great to learn what the bottom looks like (Close as you can get without a camera))
I have to run but you will love the pinpoint!

I fish a lot of tournments and the only trolling motor I will use is the pinpoint. I switched two years ago to Pinpoint and I am very happy, it does take a little getting used to but once you figure it out it works great. As far as the service, I sent my motor in once to get fixed it was back within a week. I also needed a transducer bracket two days before a tournment they overnighted it to me and I had it in time for the event. Pinpoint is not a sponsor of mine but I would highly recommend trying it- As with everything you get what you pay for. Good luck
I have the 3700 and love it. The only time I have trouble is on a windy day. But the autopilot I had. Had the same problem when it was windy too. Would I go back! Never!!! By far best purchase I ever made. 7520 with 3700 motor. Follow a break catch a fish fight him in, hit the resume button turns 180 degree's takes you right back where you just caught the last one. Catch another hit it again till there ain't anymore bites. Have done that alot. Where there's one there could be more. You can even wire it to a gps if you want. Read on here guys talking about that awhile back. Craig

DIITTO everyone else - had mine about 6 weeks - wish I had bought it last year - that's from a former (3 of em) autopilot owner.
Works great most of the time - and I mainly b*ss fish...
Few places it won't track. Ran a shoreline at 7.6 ft for 3 hours - back & forth - for saugeye - 2nd day I had it and just hammered them - without it - probably none... Great bttery life - quiet.
Got a 7500 and a 7520 - 7520 quit - they sent me a new one - without so much as seeing a sales slip - a return etc. 3 days to my door and a return UPS pickup - now that is service.
Get it - is the best gift I've got me and my boat in a long time...
I have a PinPoint 3700 and 7520 scope. The combination is nothing short of magic. It does everything the marketing 'propaganda' says, and then some.
Mostly I use mine in 'depth tracking' mode, following breaklines or working the perimeter of sunken islands/reefs. Unless it is really windy, you "just sit back and leave the driving to Pinpoint". If you pass over a pocket of fish and want to return, there is a "turn around and go back" function which swings your boat around and takes you back over the ground you just covered.
I've tried the 'shore track' mode too, just to see what it's like, and it seems to work just fine too. Can't comment on the 'creek track' mode, because I don't fish any reservoirs.
The motor is strong, and seems to be very "power-usage" efficient. I know it runs *far* longer on a charge than my old MinnKota "econo-mizer" unit used to run.
And that's only the trolling motor...... haven't even started to tell about the 7520 sonar!
Not sure if I could fish without either of these anymore.
By the way, service from PinPoint is awesome. Had some suspicions about a weak transducer on the transom, so I called their 1-800 customer service number from my cell phone while on the lake one day, and the tech ran me through some tests, and also thought the transducer might be "not up to snuff". Had a new one the next day!

My experience with my Pinpoint 3700 series has not been as positive as the other posters on this board. It does work well if you have a pretty sharp breakline to follow. However most of my fishing is on lakes that are more like a bowl with very gradual depth changes. On these lakes I am forced to manually control the motor. I will say that the graphs are very good though. I have the 24 volt 3700 series with a 7820 graph. If you're interested in a used one I would be willing to part with mine. E-mail me if you,re interested.
