I like lake Erie for both Smallmouth and walleye .

Lake Erie, Western Basin - Can't beat it with a stick!

As of late, the Central basin for bass has been the hot spot. When I say central, I mean the Huron River to Cleveland area. Most of the local tournaments have been won there as of the last few weeks. Walleye fishing is good in that area also. The northwest corner of the lake near the mouth of the Det. River has been hot for walleyes for a few weeks. Two weeks ago they were really getting them. Probably still are. Bass law will be in there on the Can. side the weekend after next. It is a great area for bass.

A second choice would be Lake Mille Lacs, Mn.

You know what I'm gonna say!!! Erie of course. But if you want to make it a little more special think about taking them over to Pelee Island and work out of there. The rock piles and reefs have been good for eyes and small mouth fishing is great over there now. The whole island thing is kinda neat as well. I'd be happy to help, if you need more details just email me. Or call Scott he'd be able to get you names and phne numbers. Wish my boat was in, I'd like to help. It would be a good time. Best of luck. See ya. Jim

Man, I don't know what youre talking about!
Mille Lacs is expiriencing one of the best walleye bites ever! 60-80 fish a day!
Who cares if you can't keep any, it's still fun to catch em!
As far as the smallies go, this lake holds some MONSTER fish, lots of 4-6 lbers and the potential for a state record exists. Good numbers of fish as well.
My vote goes to Mille Lacs

Hey, Gull Guide, I think I used to work with you at CSI. I think you remember me, my name is Dan. How's the fishing been? I've been getting them really good on Mille Lacs. Did you ever get anything going on that tournament you were talking about. Why don't you email me djochum@sehinc.com

I agree. The walleye fishing is unbelievable right now. Bassmaster just did an article on the smallmouth fishing there too. They concur that it is one of the best fisheries for size and numbers, not to mention how easy they are to find.

Do you have to stay in the US? I know of a great lodge in the southern part of Manitoba that has great smallies, walleye and other fish as well. The best part is that they can take a 1 day trip into one of the best walleye lakes in Canada. All catch and release, no lodges and huge walleyes by the dozen.

I would go for Canada. I live next to Lake Erie and there is just something about fishing off a nuke plant that doesn't make it special anymore. Great fishing though.
