You need to go see Denny Braun at Sportsman's Outpost in Vermilion. Call him at 1 888 855 9032 and tell him what you're after. He knows, he won't take advantage, and he is happy to help. The down riggers are really not necessary unless you're after stellhead or fishing east of Cleveland. Good luck.

Joe,
Definitely go see Denny - He'll help you get setup right the FIRST TIME - and this is a big deal to eliminate some of the trial and error up front. Again depending WHERE on Erie you plan to fish - you may do yourself a favor by getting and learning dipseys first. If you post back with some more specific info about where you plan to fish and some more specific questions - You'll get better help on here.
First thing I would do is go spend $25 on "Precision Trolling" - you can order it online by clicking on "Products" at the top of this page. Feel free to email and I will also try to help if I can.

Joe,
Forgot to say - If you already have the planar mast and are putting it on you'll want to get some Jet Divers. Depending where you fish (water depth) you'll most likely want size 20 and size 30 to start out. If you are western basin you should be able to get by with size 20's. Most trollers are pulling Stinger Spoons. The smaller size (scorpions) are more popular but we also do good on the regular size stingers. Must have colors include Confusion, Shrimp, Boy Girl, Monkey Puke, Watermellon, Bumble Bee, Rainbow Trout, Kavorkian, Dolphin...
Good Luck,
Steve
