Just received my new downriggers from Cabela's. Yes, they included a free 8lb ball, but NOT VINYL coated like the others they sell.

Oddly enough they include a sticker which mentions the health problems lead can cause, but don't feel the need to coat the balls. How much can that cost? $1.00 tops to drop into hot vinyl!

Does anybody know of a kit one can buy to meltdown vinyl and coat the balls?

Thanks,

Wayne

Im not sure if it's the same but would probably work. At Walmart or Lowes they have a product that you did the handles of your tools in to coat them . I think it comes in quart cans. this may work for ya. or you can dip them a couple times in a good heavy paint.Or buy ya a couple vinyl covered ones (maybe) in a different size and keep these for back ups

I coated some with Plasti-coat worked good. They sell it at Fleet Farm etc. near the tools I think. You can put on several coats. The lead is messy, it will rub off onto carpet etc. Funny the ones they show are all black in the add aren't they?

Wow, a free set of balls. (someone had to say it)

The colored vinyl used for tool handles works well & has lasted for several years now. One (pint?) can is plenty for two balls with several coats on each. Just get a few foam brushes and paint it on, toss the brush, let it dry, & start over.
