I have a 36 volt trolling motor on the rear of my boat and I would like to hook up a 24 volt trolling motor in the front of my boat. Can I use the same batteries without disconnecting anything?
Sure,
When you have three 12 volt batteries connected in series, you have the capability to run a 12 volt motor, a 24 volt motor, and a 36 volt motor all at the same time.
However, bear in mind, that the first battery in the string - will be used for all three motors.
In your case, the 3rd battery that is used for your 36 volt motor - will be discharged less than the two other batteries that you power your 24 volt motor from.
To run your 36 volt motor - simply connect to - of the first battery and the + of the motor to the + of the 3rd battery.
To run your 24 volt motor - simply connect another wire to the - of the first battery and the + to the + of the 2nd battery.
You should be able to leave all other charger wires etc. connected without any problems.
If you have a manual charger, you will want to charge the 3rd battery less, because you will overcharge it - if you charge it the same amount.
If you have an automatic charger - connect it and let it charge until it turns off.
Take care
