I am now ready to outfit the new boat with some rod holders. Drift fishing, long lining, power drifting/trolling, etc. I will probably have some side mount and deck mount applications. I am looking at the Cabela's 360 HT holders which I think are made for them by Scotty. What about RAM, Down-East,Driftmaster,Roberts, etc. Which do you use and why? both the good and bad. I don't like the idea of the quick draws because you can't use a swivel lock to keep your pole aboard. Thanks for your info.

I've got both types of rod holders from Cabelas -- the 360's and Quickdraw's (two of each). You are correct, Scotty does make them for Cabelas. They are nice, would buy them again. I have the flush mount holders with them. I bought both types because the pistol grip style rod butts do not fit into the Quickdraws. Don't worry about locking the rods in with the Quickdraws -- unless you plan on running a perfect parallel (or less) with the water.
Take care

Don't think you'll go wrong with the Cabelas holders. I've had the Roberts, Ram tube type and now the Cabelas. Roberts were OK till Cabelas came out with theirs. The Roberts would always come out of the mount when you tried removing the rod-the fit was not tight enough-a real nuisance. Also the locking ring on the Roberts only turns one way-usually the oppoosite way you try first! These two problems do not exist with the Cabelas holders. The Ram tube type is really nice if you are concerned about the handle of your rods sticking inside the boat making it harder to move around inside the boat with multiple rods out. Maybe a minor feature till you think about it. These mounts are quite pricey however! Never had the regular Ram mounts-so all I can say is they sure are ugly! Tom
Iv'e had good luck with titelock triples and singles can be set in a lot of different positions would have gone with big jon but to pricey. Also can get extra plates that mount flush and am able to move them to different locations and can also switch from 1 boat to the other.

My vote goes to Fish-On rod holders. I've tried the Cabelas and they're OK, but just not the same feel and function as the Fish-On. I do a lot of chinook and sturgeon fishing, and I don't trust some of the others to withstand a heavy fish hitting on 20 lb+ test. Never tried RAM, though.

I have the down east clamp ons. Very tough, we use them when trolling St.clair for muskies they have to be able to take abuse. Would buy them again in a heartbeat.

I have always used Roberts, but I few years ago I bought a boat that had Fish-on rod holders. I love them. No sharp edges like the Roberts.

There's been enough posts for you to make qa decision, but I have to give you my two cents as well. I had a big dilema this spring when I rigged my boat, just wasn't sure and I'm a bit fussy. Was sort of interested in the Ram 2000 models, but couldn't fins anybody that had them that I could view in person. I purchased Attwood/Roberts Pro Series, but ended up returning them before I ever mounted them. I did not like the size of the base, it was huge. I ended up buying the Attwood/Roberts 2 in 1 rod hold which were what I had on the laswt boat. I liked how the worked, and I liked the fact that the bases were smaller. However you'll have to look around because I see the tehy now come with the same bases as the Pro Series, but if you look around you can still find the old bases.

I've had the Cabelas quick draw for the last 3 years. No problems. I like them.
