O.K., I'll do my best to describe the problem. My motor starts and idles just fine. But when I start out it seems to sputter and be missing or just running ruff until I get on plane. Then it runs out like a champ. Any Ideas? Thanks

I HAVE A MARINER 150 EFI ALSO, 1997 MODEL, AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM TWO YEARS AGO. I CALLED MY DEALER AND THEY SENT ME A NEW SET OF PLUGS AS WELL AS A FUEL SEPERATOR (SPIN ON LOCATED ON THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTOR)AND FIGURED THAT IT WAS WATER IN THE GAS. I REPLACED THE ITEMS AND PLACED FRESH GAS IN THE TANK. THE PROBLEM CLEARED UP AFTER AN HOUR OR SO ON THE LAKE. THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE EVER HAD WITH THE MOTOR AND APPEARS TO BE BULLET PROOF SO TO SPEAK. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

there is a fuel pump rebuild kit that may solve your problems. I have a 96 150 that I rebuilt and found the known problem. The low pressure fuel pump run off the vaccum pressure on the crankcase, the material the diaphrams were made out of did not do well with modern fuel mixtures and would result in the little flapper values not closing, they would warp. The new kit is cheap about $12 and easy to install. Call your merc shop and see if your serial number of engine was effected.

I have a 1996 Merc. e.f.i. There is a known servive bulletin problem with defective voltage regulators. I ended up replacing mine and the motor runs the best it ever has.All the symtoms were fuel in nature and the 150 to 200 H.P. Mercs and Mariners E F I were listed on the bulletin. If you Need more imfo I think I have the S.B. # filed.

hey spanky, I would be intereseted in that service bulliten # if you could look it up, thanks
Check all the fuel line - when ours was new, there was kink in it and it kind of acted like yours. But ours would not idle well until some "throttle" was applied. Striaghtened out the line and it has run great since. it is 97 Merc.
