Heading up to Leech for the first time Friday night from Chicago. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a bait shop in the Whipholt area, or on my drive up to pick up some leechs and crawlers. Will be staying at Huddles Resort for the week. Thanks in advance John K...

I go out of my way to purchase bait at Leech Lake Bait. He is a wholesaler/distributer that delivers to most of the resorts and bait shops up there. I can't give you specific instructions, but he is just out of Walker on 371. I have driven way out of my way to buy bait there. Also if you're there for the week, make sure you go shop even if you're just window shopping to Reeds in Walker. Reeds is the best sporting goods store around, including Galyans and Gander Mountain.
The number to Leech Lake Bait is 218-547-1734.
Good Luck on Leech

Hey John, when you come in to Walker on Hwy. 371 there is a "T" at Hwy. 200. There is a Conoco station just to the left that will have bait. The Leech Lake bait place is, I believe no more than two miles if you take a left and will be a couple of blocks in to the left of Hwy. 200. Also, when you come to the "T" of Hwy. 371 and Hwy. 200, Huddles is about 7 miles to the right. Good luck!!
What's wrong with the one by subway?

If traveling from the south, there's a super bait shop in Hackensack right on 371 (north side of town). Swanson's bait shop. Lots of neat stuff as well as good fresh bait. Prices consistent with shops in the area.
