I'm looking at putting a rock guard on my Tahoe this year and have been wondering what the pros and cons are between the Cabelas Ultra Guard vs the Road Wig. The Ultra is less expensive, but is it a real bear to clamp onto your bumper? The Road Wig looks like it simply slips on your receiver. Any and all comments are appreciated.

I put the Roadwing by Roadmaster on instead of the Ultra Guard due to it's alot simplier to remove. My two cents.

Take a good look at KWIK P.F.Y.T. Mud Flaps. kwikpfyt@prtel.com Ph. 888-740-5150 - I have a 4 year old set for my tow vehicle that still works and looks like new.
The paint chip damage to your trailer they save in one year will make them worth having. They also cut down on road grime and debri. And NO KWIK P.F.Y.T. does not sponsor me. Just a good product worth taking a look at.

I bought the Rock-Guard because it was a lot less expensive. However, the way it was designed to attach to my truck was less than satisfactory. (they changed their setup recently) So, I used a piece of ¼ angle iron and bolted the guard to that. The bar's ends were ground round so they were not sharp and painted black. Make sure you get a piece of angle that is nearly as long as the rubber guard or the ends will fold back and not provide the protection you want. While iron was cheaper it would be nice to get an aluminum angle to prevent corrosion and rust that I think will probably happen to my setup eventually. The kit did supply a U fitting that went around my receiver hitch. It seems to work fine.

I had this problem and found the cheap way out.
The flaps that the dealer installed on my truck don't hang down far enough to keep the rocks off the boat and trailer so I bought a set
of rectangular rubber flaps at Farm & Fleet and bolted them onto the flaps that were already on the back of my truck. Got them so they
were hanging about a inch from the ground and they are as wide as my
tires so it took care of the rock problem. Only takes a few bolts
and a $20 set of flaps to solve the problem. Easy to remove when fishing season is over.
